How to Tell the Difference Between Brazilian, Malaysian, and Peruvian Hair in 5 Minutes or Less!

Posted by on

Buying human hair extensions can be more complicated than most people would expect. When it's time to get your hair done, you want to get the best quality hair possible. As you browse various sites, you consider the following: What kind of hair should I get?  Which type of hair is best to maintain the style I want? Will it last? And, will it shed or tangle? All of these questions are imperative in choosing the right hair extensions to rock with. However, it can be difficult to find the answers you are looking for online; especially, if you are not an expert on the different types of extensions.

In this blog, I will share with you a few tips to help you make the right decision on the kind of hair that will work best for you by comparing the most popular types of hair on the market: Brazilian, Malaysian, and Peruvian hair.

Brazilian Hair

Brazilian hair is the most popular hair in the hair industry right now. You can get it for a reasonable price, and it will last you for up to 6 months to a year. This hair pattern has a natural shine and is silky to touch. Brazilian hair is versatile and does not require a lot. Hairstylist and women love this hair because it blends well with texturized or relaxed hair.  Additionally, this hair tends to hold curls well. If you are looking for hair that is flexible, wet or dry, Brazilian hair would be a good choice. Your hair is an investment, so make sure to purchase quality hair. Brazilian hair will be soft to the touch, and all cuticles should go in the same direction.  If you want your hair to blow in the wind and have you feeling like Beyonce; go and get you some Brazilian hair!

Malaysian Hair

Malaysian hair has a high shine. If you are a person who desires that ultra-shiny, silky look, then Malaysian hair is for you. However, with time and a couple of washes, the hair will slowly lose that high shine and have a natural shine. If you want to maintain that shine, it is suggested that you wash and condition your hair with sulfate free products and use a little Argan oil. Malaysian curly textures retain its form and look beautiful. Similar to Brazilian hair extensions, Malaysian hair is very versatile and flexible. This hair does not require heavy oils or a lot of products, but it does need to be moisturized like your natural hair.  If you want people to stop and stare at you when you walk into a room; then Malaysian hair is the one for you!

Peruvian Hair

Peruvian hair is coarser and thicker than Brazilian and Malaysian hair. It is the best hair to use if you are trying to blend your natural hair (with some heat, of course). Peruvian hair is also the best if you are a first-time weave wearer and need something that is manageable. You can style and straighten Peruvian hair very easily. Peruvian hair uses the least amount of hair products and looks very natural. Many hair stylists say that they like to use Peruvian hair because it looks so natural and blends well with African American hair. The hair looks like it is coming right out of your because of its natural look and feel.  However, Peruvian hair is duller; unlike Brazilian and Malaysian.  Adding a little bit of Argan oil to your Peruvian extensions will give it a nice subtle shine. If you are looking for extensions that you can easily maintain with very little maintenance; Peruvian hair is perfect for you: it's great for a casual everyday wear!

Choosing the perfect type of hair extensions can be a challenge, but remember your lifestyle and what looks best on you. My suggestion is that you try different types of hair and textures to see which one you like.  Wearing a weave can protect your natural hair and give you a new look, but most importantly it is an investment. Purchase premium quality hair that will last at least one year, tangle and shed free, and with all its cuticles going in the same direction. It will take a lot of trial and error before you find the right one. Shopping for weave should be fun and great retail therapy while, helping you embrace your beauty through your hair!
